iPhone in Walmart???

That is correct, after this holiday season AT&T iPhones will begin being sold at Walmart. Click here to read the entire story. This move by iPhone makes me wonder...Will the iPhone brand lose its impressive status now that it is sold at Walmarts or will become stronger? Which is better sell your phone at Walmart or sell your phone through all other wireless communications providers such as Verizon and Sprint? Finally by going to a more intensive distribution model is the writing on the "wal" for the iPhone, haven't we seen this before?

I think that selling the iphone at walmart will lessen the desire of consumers for the iphone. If they are planning on selling the phone for only $3 less than the original price I don't think that it will cause buyers to go to walmart over another store that sells it for the full price. Ali M. 1

I have split feeling about this. On one hand it is good for the customers because of the lower price, but then on the other hand it basically diminishes the exclusiveness that the Iphone had. More people may begin to switch over to AT&T becase of this lower price too. I also think that this will have a positive on the already growning Wal-Mart stock.

In some ways the sales of iPhones in Walmart could be good, but then again it will ruin the brand that the iPhone is known for. People associate the iPhone with wealth and class, whereas most people look at Walmart as being a not as well off and dirty place (which may or may not be true). But then again, by bringing in such a well-known handheld device, the shoppers of Walmart will be able to provide themselves with the sense of wealth and organization that the customers of AT&T feel with the higher end iPhone. Although the iPhone may lose its "impressive status", AT&T will be reaching out to more people creating a wider market for their company and establishing a brand that is reaching out to all walks of life.

Th iPhone has become an incredibly popular product and Walmart now has an opportunity to increase its market share by offering a premium electronic product that Best Buy and Target can't offer. I think this is great for Walmart and AT&T because they are having Walmart sell the iPhone and yet they get paid to offer the service. This decision could potentially start a trend of cell phone providers opening kiosks in the middle of stores like Target and Walmart. Ben W. 1

I think this is a good decision by Apple. They are sensing that phones from Google and Blackberry are getting better and catching up to their iPhone. Apple is making a great business decision to lock up as many customers as possible, by selling the best smartphone at a lower more affordable price, in the largest superstore in the nation, Wal Mart.

I think it is actually a really bad decision for Walmart. Sort of like if Nike were to start selling there, all credibility of being a higher name brand would basically die. I mean, when you want to be on top of the market you need to create an image and stick to it. I think changing an image you've tried to create is really just asking for an unsteady pool of consumers. There's some people who buy Apple products simply because, hey, its Apple! and by selling at Walmart, no offense to Walmart, they have created not only an affordable image, but you get a cheap vibe as well simply by how the store is set up. maybe it's just me, but Walmart is never decorated like a Target is, it looks like a warehouse. A very successful warehouse, but still. And when you go to the Apple store, at the mall, its so clean and high tech looking...its an image you get with Apple products, sleek and sophisticated while high tech. Quite frankly, I see the Apple iPhone as being above Walmart. AT&T will benefit from all this, being that the number of people exposed to their products will increase, but for Apple, ouch not so good.
